How did you become interested in dance?
I have been dancing since I was a little girl! I remember my mom wanting to enroll me in dance classes, but I was too scared and didn’t want to. She made me do a trial class at a local dance studio, and I instantly fell in love and have been dancing ever since. It has been thirteen wonderful years of dance!

What kind of career do you hope to have?
Upon graduation, I plan to teach dance as much as I can. Later in life, I would like to open up my own dance studio.

What is your favorite thing about the Department of Dance?
My favorite thing about the Department of Dance is the community-based environment. This community is very welcoming, uplifting, and supportive. This has been a major help to me and my college career, as I am constantly supported by my peers and the faculty throughout my journey.

Do you participate in any community activities or work in the Charlotte arts community?
I work at Dance Fever Charlotte, a dance studio located about fifteen minutes from campus. I teach dance classes there as well as work in the office. I am also a member of the dance department’s Student Advisory Council, where we plan department events and serve as advocates for the students. Lastly, I will be a preceptor in the fall for Dr. Nesbit’s Improvisation class.

Do you have any merit scholarships (ex: Levine Scholar, Martin Scholar, Crown Scholar)? If so, can you talk about that experience?
I am a recipient of the Belk Scholarship, which has helped me become more involved in the dance department. This scholarship has allowed me to participate in events such as open houses and demonstrating for master classes. It has allowed me to learn so much from working with faculty

When you are not in class, studying, working, or rehearsing, what do you like to do for fun?
I like to snuggle with my cat – his name is Giggles! I also enjoy spending time with my family and friends!
