Give a little general information about yourself: how did you become interested in the arts/design?
When I was around seven or eight years old, I stumbled across an anime playing on TV and was instantly hooked. I found myself falling in love with the characters, the art, and the storyline. I spent hours coming up with my own ideas and imagining what it would be like as the main character of a show. Over time, I began to draw the things I saw on TV, and my desire for becoming a heroine soon evolved into a desire to create my own show someday.

What kind of career do you hope to have?
For my entire life, the things that have inspired me the most are beautiful stories and beautiful art. I started writing and drawing seriously when I was in high school. I evolved from wanting to create lighthearted narratives to wanting to tackle philosophical and psychological topics through storytelling mediums. Because of this, my ultimate dream is to become a comic artist and explore different genres of stories and art styles.

What is your favorite thing about the Department of Art & Art History?
My favorite thing about being in the Department is being able to develop close relationships with my classmates and teachers. Because our class sizes are smaller than most majors, students have the opportunity to get closer to the instructors and receive mentoring. Throughout my time of being in the Department, I’ve been able to foster close friendships with my classmates as well as have my artistic growth recognized by my instructors.

Do you participate in any community activities or work in the Charlotte arts community?
During the summer of 2019, I had the opportunity to be an intern with the nonprofit SHARE Charlotte, and through them, I was able to get to know more about Charlotte’s diverse nonprofit community, including many of the arts-related nonprofits in the city.

If you are in the Arts + Architecture Honors Program, please tell one thing that you have gained from that program.
The Arts + Architecture Honors Program has wonderful class structures. The seminars offered are extremely engaging and thought-provoking, and involve more focused assignments. Just taking one introductory seminar has had a huge effect on the way I perceive a lot of things related to art, philosophy, society, and history.

When you are not in class, studying, or working, what do you like to do for fun?
I enjoy reading webcomics and novels, watching YouTube, and listening to true crime podcasts!
