Evan Danchenka's trips to New York City while a student in the School of Architecture led to what he calls his "delirious experience" with the Big Apple.
"In 2nd year, we saw the sites. In 3rd year, I composed music using subway sounds. In 5th year, we explored ways of measuring, programming, and designing building through computational tools. Today, I work on a combination of all these elements."
As a Design Analyst within the consulting practice at Gensler's New York office, Evan helps to define, guide, and influence what is designed and then helps measure the performance of the completed design.
"I recently worked on a building repositioning strategy for an aging office building in Midtown (Manhattan). Our team proposed transforming a stack of awkward floorplans into a boutique campus that would attract a single tenant. The most exciting idea was to replace the typical in-office food pantry with a sidewalk café operated by the same tenant."
A Levine Scholar while at UNC Charlotte, it was in the School of Architecture that Evan learned "how to differentiate good ideas from powerful ones," he says.
"The SoA prepares its students for practice through a blend of exploration, theory, and technical training. This formula helps teach you how to put a building together, while also remaining curious about the possibilities of the architecture industry. The campus itself offers some of the best facilities and tools that you can find in the country."
