Give a little general information about yourself: how did you become interested in the arts/design?
I have drawn and painted since I was very young, taking private painting lessons from age 8 until age 16. In my 20’s, I became very interested in black and white illustration, especially portraiture, and I spent many years drawing with graphite and charcoal. Until recently, my style of art has always been Hyper-Realism, and my favorite era is Renaissance. Currently, I am branching out into more abstract work with my sculptures. I am interested in large sculpture works, especially.

What kind of career do you hope to have?
I Intend to work as an Art teacher, hopefully with middle school-age kids, while I am going to graduate school to get my Master's in Sculpture. I will continue to work on my sculptures while teaching and going to school.

What is your favorite thing about the Department of Art & Art History?
The art and art history professors are amazing and give you the freedom to explore and develop new skills as an artist. The accessibility of the studios is especially helpful since I commute to campus approximately 2 hours each way. The beauty of the campus with its gardens and sculptures was one of the reasons I chose UNC Charlotte.

Do you participate in any community activities or work in the Charlotte arts community?
I am a member of a few honor societies at UNC Charlotte.

When you are not in class, studying, or working, what do you like to do for fun?
I enjoy outdoor sports such as hiking, camping, and riding quads. I also enjoy going out in our Jeep rock-crawling. I love traveling and going to New York to visit museums. Really anything to do with art!!
