Give a little general information about yourself: how did you become interested in the arts/design?
Art has always a medium of expression and comfort. I am proud to say that I grew up in a household where creativity and out-of-the-box thinking were encouraged. My brothers and I challenge each other’s creative abilities through collaboration and expression. I was blessed by the visional language of photography during a time where the written and spoken word was foreign to me.
What kind of career do you hope to have?
I hope to have a career as a fine art artist. I want my work to serve as catalysts for engagement and economic growth of Black communities.
What is your favorite thing about the Department of Art & Art History?
My favorite thing about the Department of Art & Art History is the community and art facilities. The faculty and staff are always willing to help with your vision and ideas. Plus, the Rowe building is basically an art gym/playground. You can find me immersed in the faculties and resources.
Do you participate in any community activities or work in the Charlotte arts community?
I am a part of The Charlotte Collegiate Institute (CCI). CCI is a leadership program that partnered with The Institute for Responsible Citizenship in Washington, DC. The Institute for Responsible Citizenship selects scholars from all over the United States. They have a wide variety of interests and represent small liberal arts colleges, large universities, Ivy League institutions, and historically Black colleges and universities. I am the president of United Creative Vision (UCV), Bridge: Connecting the Arts, and Art of Light Photo Club.
When you are not in class, studying, or working, what do you like to do for fun?
When I am not doing working, you can find me writing poetry, dancing, or whistling to myself.
