Give a little general information about yourself: how did you become interested in the arts/design?
I became interested in ceramics when I first saw a wheel in middle school art class. I remember sitting in class and watching the other students who were allowed on the wheel make things and being intensely jealous. The first year I was allowed to be on the wheel, I got on and just never stopped.

What kind of career do you hope to have?
I’m planning on becoming an educator in ceramics. I'd love to teach at the college level with students who share my passion. I am also going to have my own wood/soda-fired functional ceramics shop on the side so I can further my own work.

What is your favorite thing about UNC Charlotte or the Department of Art & Art History?
My favorite thing about UNC Charlotte is the freedom the students are provided with. If you have a plan you can talk with the professors, and they will help point out things you missed or better ways to go about it. The wealth of experience and knowledge my professors bring into the classroom has helped me grow substantially as an artist.

Do you participate in any community activities or work in the Charlotte arts community?
I am the vice-president of the Cerama Club. We organize events centered around sharing the joy of clay with everyone. People come in and get to build, glaze, and help fire their pots. In the end, everyone walks away with something that will last for a lifetime.

When you are not in class, studying, or working, what do you like to do for fun?
I love to skate and rock climb. Rock climbing is one of my favorite activities because it challenges your mind just as much, if not more than, your body.
