Give a little general information about yourself: How did you become interested in music?
I became interested in music because of my brother. I always looked up to him and he played the tuba in band, so I wanted to do the same thing when I was old enough. When I was around seven years old, I sang at church a lot with my mom, and when I was in the sixth grade, I started playing the tuba. When I got to UNC Charlotte, I was a Criminal Justice major, but I was still taking music classes and was in the marching band. The majority of my friends were in the music department, and I had created relationships with a lot of the faculty. I realized that the Department of Music was where I was happiest and needed to be.

What kind of career do you hope to have?
My dream is to have some sort of vocal performance career, specifically in the opera world. If that doesn’t work out, I wouldn’t mind working behind the scenes. I just want to stay involved in the arts.

What is your favorite thing about UNC Charlotte, the College of Arts + Architecture, or the Department of Music?
My favorite thing about CoA+A is the tight-knit community we have, not just with the students, but faculty as well. Everyone here shows they care and want you to succeed, even with things not school-related. Also, the amazing opportunities I’ve had being here. Attending operas, going to Normandy, France, with the marching band, playing at the Panthers and Hornets stadiums, and getting pretty far in my first-ever singing competition. I couldn’t have done any of that without this amazing program!

Do you participate in any community cultural activities or work in the Charlotte arts community?
I am a Choral Scholar at The Episcopal Church of the Holy Comforter. I have also had a few singing gigs throughout the community.

When you are not in class, studying, or working, what do you like to do for fun?
I really enjoy cooking and spending time with my friends when I have the opportunity.
