Assistant Professor of Dance Tamara Williams has presented her research on the spiritual dances of the African Diaspora in two international conferences this fall. In October, she taught an Afro-Brazilian dance workshop and performed a solo work, “Of the Past,” at the Rex Nettleford Arts Conference at Edna Manley College in Kingston, Jamaica. The theme of the fourth biennial conference, held October 11-13, was “Arts and Culture for the 21st Century: Millennial Dis-Engagement Engagement – Re-Engagement.”
Williams is also presenting at the ninth biennial Association for the Study of the Worldwide African Diaspora (ASWAD) conference, held this month in Seville, Spain. For the conference, entitled “African/Diasporic Futures: Re-Envisioning Power, Interventions, Imaginations and Belonging,” she is presenting the paper, "Dance, A Catalyst for Transcendence."
